Description
- Habit: Herb
- Habitat: Shady, moist forest floors and river banks in the Western Ghats; common in Kerala.
- Leaves: elliptic-oblong, tapering, base rounded or blunt Flowers: borne in spherical, stalkless spikes,Inner bracts are ovate-oblong,pinkish-white, rarely yellowish
- Fruit : elongate-trigonous , bright red when ripe
- Seeds : subquadrangular , dull gray

How to use
- Leaves are powdered and applied as a paste or plaster to affected areas
- Muscle pains : Warmed leaves are applied as a hot compress for muscle pains, and in cases of paralysis.

Propagation & Cultivation
Propagated vegetatively through underground rhizomes. Cultivation: Rhizome pieces with buds are planted in moist, shaded areas. It requires rich organic soil and constant moisture. It spreads rapidly and can form dense colonies, often requiring little maintenance once established.
