Description
- Habit : Herb
- Habitat : Cool forest areas near mountain streams and damp forest floor; 300 - 2000 m. altitude
- Leaves : found in upper portion of the stem
- Flowers : clavate spikes, bracts pinkish or dark brown
- Rhizomes : dull red color
- Seeds : seed pods have a strong camphor-like flavor
How to use
- The cold infusion of the seeds of Amomum subulatum is used for gargling to treat diseases of the oral cavity like dental caries, inflammation of the gums.
- The oil from the seeds is aromatic, stimulant, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
- The powder of the seeds is chewed to reduce the foul breath.
- The oil prepared using seeds of Brihat ela is applied over the body parts having pain and swelling.

Propagation & Cultivation
It is propagated through rhizomes. Place rhizomes just below the soil surface with the buds facing up.Space them 12-15 inches apart for containers or small beds.Prefers rich, well-draining soil that's slightly acidic to neutral and high in organic matter.A mix of loam, compost and leaf molds works completely.
