Description
- Habit : Tree
- Habitat : thrives in tropical and subtropical climates,full sun and well drained soil
- Leaves : bilobed,long and broad,with a cleft up to 5cm deep.
- Flowers : large,with five white petals,ten yellow-tipped stamens
- Fruits : round, a thick, hard, deep red rind surrounding snow-white flesh
How to use
- A decoction of the leaves and bark is used as an astringent, febrifuge and to treat thrush, diarrhea, dysentery and urinary disorders.
- The dried and powdered fruit skin is used as an abrasive and is also antioxidant, hair conditioner and skin conditioner

Mangosteen is best propagated by seeds, which germinate in 10–15 days when freshly taken from the fruit, producing trees identical to the mother, but lose viability if dried or stored outside for several days, though they can be kept for 3–4 weeks within the fruit and seeds should be planted in a medium rich in organic matter such as mixtures of dried leaves, sand, and charcoal, alluvial topsoil with sugarcane-filter press cake, perlite with sphagnum moss, topsoil with sphagnum moss, or sphagnum moss alone, which minimizes transplanting shock.
